About us

Our Pilots and Visual Observers

Our Pilots and Visual Observers

Our Pilots and Visual Observers

  • Pilots at Strudwick Commercial Drone Operations operate by the book, we observe all the sUAS regulations set forth by the FAA. Our pilots are FAA licensed Part 91 and Part 107 Commercial  pilots. We insist on a high degree of skill, safety and professionalism.  Our Pilots are required to be insured and current in all phases of our flight training, they must also possess a thorough knowledge of FAA Part 107 Airspace, Weather and Operating regulations.
  • We practice adequate pre-flight preparation, established flight standards and safe operating procedures. Our pilots are skilled and experienced in the areas of Aeronautical decision making which includes Hazard identification,  Risk  Assessment  and mitigation. They are also experts in Weather trend spotting and recognition of the lateral boundary and vertical limits of Controlled Airspace.   We  adhere  to established fight standards on all our missions. These are the  requirements that we insist on maintaining.    Our Visual Observers (VO) are trained in VO responsibilities, Airspace Scanning and VO/RPIC communications. They preview the area of operations to identify airspace and the possibility of (air/surface) intrusive traffic. When operating in close proximity to airports, we fly with an ATC radio active.

Why Choose Strudwick?

Our Pilots and Visual Observers

Our Pilots and Visual Observers

  • We observe and adhere to the FAA's sUAS Regulations, Flight Standards, Operating Procedures and Maintenance  requirement, with an emphasis on Safety. The Prevention of Accidents and  maintaining a safe operating environment is one of our highest priority. We identify Environmental Risk and Hazards then implement the necessary mitigation and prevention factors prior to each mission. We monitor weather trends  and anticipate the possibility of significant weather activity that can adversely affect our flight environment.
  • We offer creative post production skills in video/photo editing (4K/HDR), creating various mapping models and volumetric measurements plus inspection post production services.
  • We don't require exorbitant upfront payments, this can be arranged. Our licensed manned airplane pilots possess skill, knowledge and experience that provides an edge when performing our missions. Our emphasis is on providing the client with the services required to their satisfaction and work with them to ensure their requirements are met. All our aircrafts are registered, insured and maintained based on manufacturer's standard.

Introduction

  • We are a new Drone Services  Company developed by an experienced FAA licensed Part 91 and Part 107 Commercial Pilot. We serve the North Central Florida area, from the Orlando region north to Jacksonville, South Georgia and Atlanta regions. At Strudwick Commercial Drone Operations we provide professional Drone services which includes but not limited to; Aerial Videography and Imagery, Real Estate Videography and Photography, Photo-Mapping, 3D Modeling, Construction, Agricultural Applications and Inspection services, as well as full post production services. We also currently offer Licensed Professional Drone Pilot, Video Editing and Trained Visual Observer (VO) Services. Additional service  such as  Thermographic Inspection, Precise Drone Mapping PPK (absolute accuracy) and UAV flight training will be offered as we get more established.

  • We seek to provide clients in our areas of operation with high quality services. These services are currently being offered primarily by corporations who are often located in other states. When hiring a commercial remote pilot, always be careful about the individuals you hire. A hobbyist with a Part 107 certificate, little or no formal aviation training or background and no established/documented Flight Standards or Operating Procedures around an expensive asset, can quickly become a liability. We are local, qualified, posses formal aviation training and can provide a more exclusive personal service. We are looking to coordinate with the following businesses ; Construction, Surveying, Roof/Home/Structure Inspection, Real Estate,  Production (Cinema), Farmers and Wedding Photographers in order to provide Drone services relevant to their particular areas of operation. They are encouraged to utilize our services on an "as-needed" basis to augment, enhance or provide a measure of safety to their business or services. We are also open to other businesses that can incorporate drones in their operations.  For more information, please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page. Our "sUAV (Drone) Flight Training" book will be published in the next 3-6 months.  Keep checking this website for updates.

  • We have completed our system whereby our Inspection, Monitoring or any aerial activity can be watched on your PC from anywhere, you see what the camera sees. While at a worksite you can direct us from the office, capture photos and videos emphasizing any area of interest, this can also be done from our worksite monitors. You can also instantly email captured photos/short videos from the worksite. Many local companies could be in need of our services and might not know we exist. If you are just a curious visitor and have knowledge of companies that might need our services, please do not hesitate to contact us. We do pay a commission fee for referrals. The highest commissions are paid on initial projects. Real Estate Agents are encouraged to contact us regarding a free Real Estate video shoot, we shoot,  edit and provide a finished product.

"Great visual observer, his private pilot knowledge came in really handy.  We felt really safe with him on our team. He monitored traffic in the vicinity, helped us  identify the  limits and remain out of adjacent controlled  airspace". J. B

Areas Served

Flight Conditions, Aircraft and Accessories

Types of Flight Environment

We currently serve all the areas from Orlando traveling north to Jacksonville. We can also travel to South Georgia for projects. We have a Pilot/VO who travels to the Atlanta and Tampa Bay area once monthly. We normally require advance notice for missions in the Atlanta area, these mission should have a duration of more than 3 days, please contact us for shorter missions. Depending on the mission we will travel longer distances providing the mission has a long enough duration. Please contact us for more information regarding our criteria for long distance travel.

Types of Flight Environment

Commercial UAV (Drone) operations take place within the NAS (National Airspace System) in two types of flight environment, within Controlled Airspace, this is generally within a 5 nautical mile radius of towered airports. The second type of environment is Uncontrolled Airspace (Class G) everywhere else excluding special use airspace.. When operating within controlled airspace we need adequate advance notice, operating within uncontrolled airspace is less complicated and can be done with a relatively shorter  notice.

Note: Generally, the controlled airspace surrounding rural towered airports become uncontrolled airspace (below 700’) if the control tower is not in operation. There are exceptions where the surrounding environment might remain (Class E) controlled airspace even with a non-operational tower. (We can make that determination)

Flight Conditions, Aircraft and Accessories

Flight Conditions, Aircraft and Accessories

Flight Conditions, Aircraft and Accessories

A minimum of 3 miles flight visibility and generally wind speeds of <= 18 knots (higher with the Inspire) is required for us to fly. We will not operate in weather conditions that might adversely affect our flight environment or significantly restrict the aircraft's ability to maneuver safely, operating wind speed might be decreased based on the mission, for example during real estate videography, the tolerable wind speed for acceptable footage might be  less than 17 knots. Area of operations also dictate maximum operable wind speed, in a wide open area higher wind speeds can be tolerated. We currently fly the DJI Phantom 4, Yuneec H and the Inspire. We use DJI brand intelligent flight batteries for missions, with DJI aircrafts, we do not use generic batteries. These and other risk mitigation factors and flight rules are outlined in our established operating procedures and flight standards manual.

Videos

Cinematic Aerial Video, shot in 4K Ultra HD

  • This is an example of an aerial video clip we created, all maneuvers were done manually, no automated flight apps used. This footage was shot from an altitude of 350 feet. If you need a similar video  done, be sure to connect with us for information on how to get your aerial video shot and edited. For optimal viewing, change default video setting to 1080p (or above) for all videos on this page. Videos might appear blurred at first but will clear up.

P.O.I/Orbit Practice (Manual)

  • Holding my radius on a manual P.O.I when it's wet, cold, windy (look at the flag) and there is no one else at the field. Practice is three times weekly to maintain currency in all maneuvers.  Apologies for the shaky Phantom footage.

A short aerial movie clip

  •  Short aerial footage was shot from an altitude of 350 feet, featuring some of our the maneuvers we typically use.  Get your own aerial video created by us.

One of our Phantom 4 aircraft

  • An aircraft going through its paces at the practice area. Pilots stay current by practicing 2-3 days per week (our currency requirement) depending on projects being worked on, at no point are we not flying. Keeping  your skills sharp means less risk at the work site. (The power lines in the background are 1000' away)

Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue

  • Drones (UAVs) can provide real-time visual information and become an eye in the sky to locate lost persons. Using drones as a tool in search and rescue can reduce the time and the number of individual required to locate and rescue an injured or lost person. Here is some footage of our drone moving just above the trees, lower than a helicopter.

Inspection Videos

The Roof Inspector, a suspense thriller.

  • In this suspense thriller (for full effect turn your sound up) we mapped and modeled the roof and presented it in it's entirety on your computer screen for you to inspect and marvel at. Some steep slope roofs such as Dormer, Gable, Hip and Valley, Intersecting/Overlaid Hip, Cross hipped, Pyramid Hip, Mansard and M shaped roofs or any roof with a pitch that's at least 10/12 (39.81 degrees) are difficult and dangerous to traverse. Therefore modeling the roof for an initial inspection is much safer. We then went in depth for a close detailed look at particular portions of the roof. Roofing professionals are urged to contact us for a free demo, they are able to watch and conduct the inspection on a second PC screen. The entire inspection process can be viewed remotely on any or all  your office PC's as it takes place.

Roof Inspection, how close?.

  • If you have ever wondered how close we can get to a roof to spot visual anomalies. Take a look at this clip (rendered in 1080p), we can get pretty close. You can see everything you would see with the naked eye. The anti-collision feature of our aircraft makes it possible to get close shots.  Done in winds of 15-17 knots, not ideal conditions for inspection. The entire inspection process can be viewed at the office by your experts on their office PC's as it takes place.  In other words, the entire office can be on the roof.  We show up at a hot, sticky, dangerous and risky worksite with our drone and you stay in your comfortable air conditioned office and conduct the initial inspection with 100% comfort and zero risks of injury. You get an up close look at the entire roof environment before any personnel set foot on the structure. Why move a whole crew to the site, save money.

Mapping and 3D Modeling Videos

A 3D Model created from our Mapping Mission

  • This is an example of a 3D model, this model can be created for land and structures.  We can model an entire roof and present it in a similar fashion for inspection on your computer screen. Homes, buildings, structures and other objects can also be modeled, many other businesses can use this type of application. Model will appear blurred at first but will clear up.

A simple 3D Model

  • This is a simple 3D model,  Connect with us  if you have a 3D modeling project. We model Homes, buildings, structures and other objects. Model may appear blurred at first but will clear up.
